As schools and are letting out for summer and vacation time is staring up, many Americans are hitting the road and hotel rooms in big numbers. Not only is travel back for many families but is more expensive than it has been.
From the hotel rooms to the gas pumps, all aspects of travel have seen increases in prices in 2025. Hotel News found that more than 70% of Americans plan to travel this vacation season, but there are many that are adjusting their plans due to the cost.
Hotel rates, gas process, and even the car rental prices have increased this year. In an article by Bankrate, the average price of gas per gallon is $3.15 and rental prices for cars in the US being $47 a day. Then for larger families it can be a strain to fins a fordable hotel room for them. Bankrate shows that the average price for hotel rooms is $237 a night.
More local and regional areas, like parks, are seeing a rise in families traveling. Instead of them going on longer trips they are choosing to visit parks and, lakes, and small towns that are more of an economical choice for them. An option for families who want to make the most of their vacation s is to take shorter trips such as taking advantage of a long weekend instead of doing the full week. There are many different booking websites that can help ones like Booking.com and Trivago.
Some smart travel tips for families:
- When flying use midweek flights or other accommodations to avoid the peel prices.
- Use any reward programs and points on your credit cards.
- Travel with other people or families to split the travel and lodging and other costs.
- Staying close to home and explore attractions that you may not have had the option to before.
With inflation still being a huge impact on families traveling, this summer will continue to show a shift toward a more budget conscious travel decision making. No matter if you are going on longer trips or exploring local places travel is back for families.
